Trolleybuses with diesel engines decrease inconveniences caused by shortages in electric power supply

On August 7 shortages in electric power supply hindered electric transport traffic in Brīvības Street and Biķernieku Riga from 10.14 till 10.40. Despite that traffic on trolleybus routes No. 14 and 16 was not interrupted, as all the vehicles on these routes are equipped with diesel generators. Trolleybus traffic was partly ensured on trolleybus routes No 17, 18, 11, 13 and 23, on which 13 out of 33 vehicles are equipped with diesel generators. Therefore, relatively little damage was caused to passengers and "Rīgas satiksme".

Rīgas satiksme reminds that early in July the company signed a contract with Škoda on the purchase of 125 trolleybuses, all of which will be equipped with diesel generators. It means that in similar cases of power shortages the public transport traffic will not be hindered and passengers will not suffer from inconveniences.

Rīgas satiksme runs 19 trolleybus routes, carrying more than 46 million passengers a year. The trolleybus fleet of Rīgas satiksme consists of 95 18-metre vehicles and 172 12-metre vehicles.
